PopFiller: American Idol Talent Shines this Year

By Pamela Canning

American Idol is beyond awesome this year; the talent is something I haven’t seen since their first year with an unknown Kelly Clarkson.  This week Elise was voted off, I actually thought Philip Phillips had the weakest performance although she wasn’t far behind.

This week’s tribute was to Queen which always brings back vibrant memories of their concert at the Boston Garden, but having said that, I didn’t enjoy Idol’s tribute week featuring Queen, you just can’t popularize such classic music in a good way.  The only performer who stood out vocally was Skyler who sang, “The Show Must Go On,” and that was a stretch.  Holly retreated back to her unconfident place of a few weeks ago which was disappointing; that girl has the voice of Christina Aguilera, but she lacks the stage presence.  Jessica Sanchez has got to be in the finale, there is no way around that.  When she takes the stage, she takes the stage.  Even when I don’t love her song choices her voice is mesmerizing.  Watching Joshua sing is an experience, if you watch his eyes you can see right into his soul, it is unreal how that man can produce.

Wednesday night’s ritual consists of dinner, waiting for my grandson to bike over, getting in our pjs, having our drinks (mine is wine, his is not) and hitting the couch.  I love my Wednesdays!!!

Who do you think is going home next?  My vote is Philip Phillips, I just don’t think he is strong enough vocally and there really is no growth.

Until next week…….

  1. Could agree more Pam – loving this season of Idol more that I have in a very very long time…..I think Holly is next to go, even if she sings well, I don’t think she has any personality on stage to save her compared to the other…..can’t wait for Tuesday night!

  2. And that is why I think she will be next to go….

  3. Ok – I have no idea who is going home tonight….Holly actually did the best she has done last night….could be a suprise with Phil Phillps – his 2nd song was not so great (loved his first one)…..
