Celebrity Judge TV Overload

By Sarah Corneau

Okay, I’m on celebrity judge/celebrity television overload right now and have no idea how to fit it all in!  I have written about the enormity of reality TV in the past and how there are just too many shows (some of which are so ridiculous and over the top).  However, I also admitted to a stash of shows lined up on my DVR.

The formula is simple and smart: attach a big name celeb to a reality show and watch it explode.  Just when I thought I had it all under control – the gorgeous J Lo and Steven Tyler on Idol, the amazing vocals of Christina Aguilera on The Voice, Sig and the rest of the gangs on the Deadliest Catch, and, of course, Ice and Coco – more is thrown at me!

Come on, how can anyone resist watching Britney Spears on The X-Factor?  How will she act, look, interact and, of course, critique contestants?  I have always been a fan of hers and year after year looked forward to her own performances, knowing she was going to bring it on stage, looking great and dancing her butt off.  In recent years, as we all know, things have certainly changed for her.  Her entertainment value was less about her stage presence and dance moves and more about her break downs and poor health habits.  I have no choice but to watch, hoping she has made a full recovery.

And then comes America’s Got Talent…  I have never watched this show, but once again, l no longer have a choice.  My husband is a dedicated Howard Stern fan and has been talking about his arrival to the show’s panel since the news broke.  I must admit (quietly, so my husband doesn’t hear) that I am very intrigued.  Stern is so outspoken and has never held back when offering his opinion.  How will he be on the show?  Will he be a Simon Cowell, crude and to the point or will he be a Steven Tyler, going with the flow and not necessarily offering up too much constructive criticism, when we all know he has so much of that to offer?

I have even considered Fashion Star, being that I am a fan of Jessica Simpson and truly believe she has found the perfect fit in fashion.  And what about the new show Duets with Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke?  I just can’t do it.  There is not enough time to watch all of these programs.  Not for this mother of two, who works full time and also has the desire to shut the TV off, be active, play with the kids and read a great book from time to time – basically, it’s hard to have my own life and keep up with watching the life of a celebrity!

Fashion Star is on NBC on Tuesday nights. It has Jessica, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos and it looks really good! I just couldn’t bare to add one more show to my lineup! LOL!

      • awesome! It sounds like a pretty good lineup of people. I can’t wait to check it out tonight!

  2. My Oh My….it appears that the celebrity world has found a way to prosper from reality television. Can’t say that I blame them, if I could have my butt on the bench I would. Question is….will I watch? Never watched America Has Talent or the X Factor so I probably will not start now. I have always watched Idol so it was a natural transition from Cowell/Abdul to Lopez/Tyler. I don’t think I have any more time to surrender to television, my answer would be, No, I will not watch. And please tell me you taped Idol tonight……can’t tell you why!

Jessica was amazing on Idol, that’s for sure!
Like you, I have no idea how I would ever fit in more shows, but with the magic of DVR, the season finale of Ice loves Coco and The Voice, I think I an manage one or two more! ;-) I am very intrigued to see how these new judges do… Howard and America’s Got Talent starts this Monday (just in case you do have room to tape it)!
