Idol is over, a new American Idol has been crowned and it is not our beloved Jessica. I have heard from many people that they are glad Philip won as he was “different”. I respect that, but come on……Jessica Sanchez was the winner, hands down.
Let’s dish about the performances- I am busting out over Jessica singing with Jennifer Holiday. In all the years that I have been following this show never has there been such a moment. That young girl did not back down, back away or tone down her vocals while singing with the mighty Broadway Diva. Although Holiday’s facial expressions were a bit over the top, her ability to deliver vocally is undeniable, just mesmerizing.
JLo’s performances were great, such fun to watch her in her element; dancing on a stage is where that woman needs to be and to think her singing career has flourished while never having gone on tour. The dance pants must be talked about, all that I can think of is Hammertime, just plain weird.
Fantasia has always been a go to singer when looking for a fabulous performance. Unfortunately, her finale performance did not live up to her past knock outs; too much hair (way too much hair), her outfit was odd and ill fitting and the makeup was horrifying. Way too distracting.
Aerosmith was fun and to think that Steven Tyler is 63 years old while still moving, singing and engaging the way he has for over 40 years is kind of a miracle, given his history. Good to see him back with his crew, nothing like Tyler and Joe Perry combining talents.
Rhianna’s performance was forgettable. I don’t believe she brought anything to the stage that is worth writing about.
Overall, I thought the finale was good; it’s always a bit cheesy in parts, but the guest performances are top notch and this year’s matching of contestant with their vocal idols was a great idea.
I hope JLo will be back although I believe her recent hinting about not returning is more about the paycheck then busy schedule, we shall see. Until next year……..

I couldn’t agree more, with all of your thoughts! I could have absolutely done without Rhianna’s performance and Fantasia’s look, but all in all, the rest of the show was fun. J Lo simply rocks and Tyler and Perry still can too!
I am a huge Phillip fan and am glad he won although now he is owned by Idol for a while. I just hope they let him do his thing. Jessica was excellent but she lacked in one thing: she said on the last show that if she ever makes her own album, it will be more her style which is “urban.” Well you wouldn’t be able to tell on any song she ever sang that she can be an urban star. She should have done more of that since that is wht she claims to be. Philip did his own thing with no problem. And omg what is with the pants JLo? I’m glad you mentioned it because I thought I was the only one to see that!
